What is a VA?
A virtual assistant (VA) provides administrative support and specialised services to businesses, entrepreneurs, executives, managers and other busy people. They are highly skilled independent contractors who make use of the advances in modern technology to complete assignments via the Internet, email, floppy or CD. Traditional methods such as regular mail and overnight courier are also used.
Virtual assistants are available to you only when required and, unlike a temporary employee, guarantee you the same great service from the same dedicated people every time but without the problems associated with employing staff or hiring temps. The majority of virtual assistants have many years experience as senior secretaries or personal assistants and who choose, for a variety of reasons, to operate as a virtual assistant, virtual PA or virtual secretary.
It is important for clients to ensure that any virtual assistant that they hire has the necessary skill-set for the work that they wish them to undertake as there are some unqualified individuals who see working as a virtual assistant as a means of earning a little extra money or as a stop-gap for students during holidays or after their course completion. This is why the Society of Virtual Assistants require members to have a web site that is of a professional standard and are prepared to remove members who fail to meet our quality criteria.
